If you talk to anyone this week they’ll say that Russia may be closer than ever to invading Ukraine. But why? President Vladimir Putin has drawn a red line over further NATO expansion but Washington isn’t budging, leading to the critical standoff we see today.
Russia doesn't threaten Ukrainian democracy. Ukraine's current state threatens democracy in the Donbas. It threatens the ethnic majority in the Donbas with subjugation by a hostile minority largely outside of its territory. It's like the Jan. 6 protesters successfully installing Trump for another term, and Trump rewards them by banning bilingual education in California ... 'cause Latin American immigrants are rapists. It's a hell of a lot like that actually.
